LOGIC media solutions and video processing specialist Comprimato have entered a partnership aimed at simplifying workflows in the IP- and cloud-based production of media content. LOGIC uses the Czech software provider’s tools and expertise in encoding, transcoding and decoding for the implementation of its IP-based and AWS-based projects. In live video applications that are IP-based, hybrid or completely in the cloud, encoding and format conversion are key aspects to ensure fast and low-latency signal processing, dissemination and distribution. With Comprimato’s tools, LOGIC overcomes existing silo thinking and friction points that can arise from proprietary formats in these production environments.

The partnership focuses on two use cases: Firstly, projects in the ST2110 network environment in conjunction with Nevion VideoIPath and NDI. Secondly, media workflows in AWS Elemental MediaConnect (EMX) in which LOGIC’s PORTAL is involved.

ST2110 networks

The Comprimato “Twenty-One Encoder” is a software-based ST2110 encoder and decoder appliance that can be used to connect ST2110 networks to NDI islands or directly to NDI mixers such as Grass Valley AMPP or VizRT Vectar. The Twenty-One Encoder offers powerful performance with up to 16x 1080i or 8x 1080p channels in a slim 1RU device with many more codecs and protocols, such as JPEG-XS TR07 for live video contribution and remote production.

AWS Elemental MediaConnect (EMX)

In a production environment in AWS Elemental MediaConnect (EMX), the Twenty-One Encoder offers additional features. Users can use the tool to address the AWS MediaConnect service as a destination from a 2110 network. To achieve this, the ST2110 device transcodes streams to H.264 based on the SRT protocol, for example.

LOGIC realizes another application in the AWS EMX universe with the “Live Standards Conversion” tool from Comprimato in conjunction with LOGIC’s PORTAL. Live Standards Conversion enables flexible motion-compensated frame rate conversion and encoding within an AWS EMX workflow. If the signal is already available in AWS EMX and the taker prefers a different format, PORTAL deploys an infrastructure in AWS EMX that converts the signal to the desired codec or format. This also applies to delivery as the primary distribution to different takers who want different formats.

By combining Live Standards Conversion with PORTAL, LOGIC designs the concept of a “forced output” in AWS, so that outputs in AWS EMX are provided with a desired format and codec. PORTAL converts the output signal live accordingly by analyzing the input signal. PORTAL is implemented directly in the customer’s AWS account, so there are no additional AWS costs for PORTAL.
